In his book, On Becoming a Person, psychologist Carl Rogers wrote, "The whole task of psychotherapy is the task of dealing with a failure in communication . . . Real communication occurs when we listen with understanding - to see the idea and attitude from the other person's point of view, to sense how it feels to them, to achieve their frame of reference in regard to the thing they are talking about."
Good communication skills can help you in both your personal and professional life. While verbal and written communication skills are important, social psychologists have suggested that nonverbal behaviors make up a large percentage of our daily interpersonal communication. How can you improve your nonverbal communication skills? These top ten nonverbal communication tips can help you learn to read the nonverbal signals of other people and enhance your own ability to communicate effectively.

Let?s face it, keeping motivated at the gym can be challenging, let alone turning up to do your workout when you?ve fallen off the wagon. Conventional training vernacular along the lines of ?go hard or go home? and ?no pain, no gain? cloud our thoughts and produces a mental slap that can propel you into the gym and may even get you a few good workouts.
The effectiveness may not last very long but instead creates a cycle of ?good? and ?bad? days (sometimes weeks), which may cause you to just give up. By focusing on the GOOD in where you are, you can activate the dormant GREAT that is only one change in perception away. You are a product of what you believe, and your environment is a product of those same beliefs. So what you expect, you get in this life, this body, these finances ? all of it is your choice.
Here is the chance to turn it all around. Ask yourself:
Shift your perception and see things the way you want them to be Go to the gym because moving FEELS good, a sweat is worth it and you are now one workout closer to your ideal health/shape. Eat as if you ARE in your ideal health and shape, exercise as if you ARE in the shape you want to be ? this requires a radical shift as many of your ?reasons? fail to stack up when you take the responsibility for it as a CHOICE.

Another BeiDou satellite goes up (Photo from facebook.com user Beidou Navigation System)
China?s rapidly-expanding rival to GPS, called BeiDou, has become available to customers across Asia-Pacific for the first time. It aims to claim a fifth of the satellite services market in the region in just three years.
Previously, the satellite constellation was only used by the country's military and government services. Now, it is being commercialized.
?The services now available include positioning, navigation, timing and short messages for China and surrounding areas. We hope BeiDou conquers 15 to 20 percent of the satellite services market in the Asia Pacific by 2015,? BeiDou spokesman Ran Chengqi announced at a press conference in Beijing, reported by Xinhua news agency.
China says that as it expands worldwide, the state-funded navigation system will bring in revenues of more than $60 billion a year.
At the moment, a user receiving BeiDou?s signal can determine their position to within ten meters. Most civilian GPS users are given positional data that is out by no more than 2 meters, but BeiDou?s makers say their services will be much cheaper than those of the US-government owned GPS.
BeiDou, which is the Chinese term for the Big Dipper star, is also expanding at an impressive rate, meaning it will soon be able to bridge the performance gap.
While GPS has been active since the 1970s, and has satellites in orbit that have been operating for two decades, BeiDou launched the first of its current generation satellites only five years ago.
GPS comprises 30 satellites, while BeiDou already has over fifteen, and is going to have another forty in orbit by the time the network is complete in 2020, at the cost of another $6 billion, according to Ran. The greater the number of satellites, the easier it is for the system to calculate location, time and velocity of moving objects.
But even if it matches the performance of the more established rival, BeiDou faces a long road to dislodging it from its dominance. As of now, 95 percent of equipment in China that uses a positioning system ? and that includes mobile phones, navigators, watches and ATMs ? relies on GPS services. The Chinese satellite data market is estimated to be worth almost $20 billion.
While BeiDou cannot be expected to supplant its successful predecessor instantaneously, many devices may be manufactured to receive signals from both of the systems, particularly with the government encouraging local producers to support the system. BeiDou receiver chips are currently more expensive than those for GPS, but prices should come down as they become more common.
Even if BeiDou does not hit its financial targets, it is still likely to be supported by Beijing at the behest of its armed forces, who are reluctant to rely on a foreign signal in all of its key military operations and equipment.? BeiDou?s first incarnation ? which was launched in 2000 and consists of 4 satellites ? was a largely military program.
The global satellite navigation segment has become a crowded marketplace over the past decade, and looks to become even more so. Russia recently completed its constellation of Glonass satellites (though it has since lost one). Europe is unrolling its Galileo system, while other countries such as India and Japan plan to develop at least regional navigation networks.
Whether these systems can truly compete with already accepted and functionally efficient GPS, or whether? they will remain vanity projects for emerging and powerful states, will be the big question over the next decade.

LAS VEGAS (AP) ? Blood was found inside a car borrowed by a Las Vegas Strip card dealer last seen with a missing 10-year-old girl and later arrested in the razor blade slashing of a co-worker at the posh Bellagio resort, a prosecutor said Friday.
Brenda Stokes Wilson was identified in court Friday as the prime suspect in the slaying, although prosecutor Robert Daskas told a judge that authorities haven't positively identified the girl found dead Thursday in an undeveloped housing tract in North Las Vegas.
"It's no secret the defendant is the suspect in the murder of 10-year-old Jade Morris," Daskas said as he convinced Senior Clark County District Court Judge Joseph Bonaventure to increase Wilson's bail from $60,000 to $600,000 pending the filing of kidnapping and murder charges.
Daskas said a weapon was used in the slaying, but he didn't elaborate.
Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy said it could be Friday afternoon before DNA testing is complete and he can positively say the body is Jade Morris. The girl was last seen by her family Dec. 21, when Wilson picked her up to go Christmas shopping. She never returned.
Wilson, 50, was arrested later that night after she was wrestled to the ground with razors in each hand following a face-slashing attack on a female co-worker, Joyce Rhone, at the Bellagio.
Wilson has been jailed on felony battery with a weapon, burglary and mayhem charges that could get her decades in prison. Police said she has offered no help in the search for the missing girl. Murder and kidnapping charges could get her life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Wilson stood in court flanked by eight police officers as her lawyer, Tony Liker, clutching a Bible and a copy of the charging documents, asked the judge to postpone arraignment until Wednesday to give him time to meet with Wilson.
Liker declined comment outside court.
Police went public with the search for Jade Morris on Christmas Day, and the case received increasing attention after the relationship between the girl and Wilson became known. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson watched the proceedings in court Friday and called the case important for the community.
Wilson, who had been identified by police and prosecutors as Brenda Stokes, told the judge Friday that her full name was Brenda Stokes Wilson.
She used to date the missing girl's father, Philip Morris, and had a long and trusted relationship with Jade Morris, according to the missing girl's grandfather, Philip Tucker.
Philip Morris was removed from court Wednesday by armed court officers after shouting questions about his daughter's whereabouts to Wilson. He did not attend Friday's hearing.
Tucker said Philip Morris lived in Billings, Mont., and worked at a Flying J truck stop for more than a year. He would stay with Wilson when he visited Las Vegas, Tucker said.
Tucker said Rhone was Wilson's best friend and also knew Philip Morris.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the slaying. But Tucker said Wilson appeared to believe that Rhone and Philip Morris had become romantically involved. Tucker said he didn't know if Wilson's jealousy was well-founded.
"But whatever was going on with them didn't concern Jade," Tucker said. "How do you take a kid who loves you so much and hurt her?"
Jade Morris' family last saw the girl when Wilson picked her at about 5 p.m. Dec. 21. About two hours later, Wilson returned to another friend the red 2007 Saab sedan that she borrowed for the shopping trip.
Wilson allegedly had a razor in each hand when she attacked Rhone as Rhone dealt blackjack about 9:30 p.m.
Daskas said police have the vehicle and are testing blood found on the driver's door and steering wheel to see if it matches Jade Morris. Stokes later got a ride with a friend to the Bellagio, police said.
Rhone, 44, was hospitalized with deep cuts on her face, including one from her ear to the edge of her mouth. A police arrest report said Rhone also had several smaller cuts around her right eye.
Tucker said Rhone called him Saturday, speaking with difficulty and expressing surprise at the attack.
"She said, 'I can't believe she would do something like this to me,'" Tucker recalled. "I said, 'Was Jade with her?' She said she didn't know Jade was involved."
A police report said Wilson told investigators following her arrest that she visited her doctor last week, seeking to be admitted to a hospital "due to feeling like she wanted to hurt someone."

TORONTO (Reuters) - Shares of Research In Motion Ltd
Last Friday, the volatile stock plunged more than 20 percent after the company said on an earnings conference call that it was rolling out a new fee structure for its services segment, which some investors fear could pressure the high-margin business.
"It got hit so hard after the conference call," said Ed Snyder, an analyst with Charter Equity Research. "People are still fairly optimistic about (BlackBerry 10) coming out in January, so (the rebound is) really just a value play."
The new fee structure overshadowed stronger-than-expected quarterly results.
RIM shares were up 9.7 percent to C$11.42 in midday trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company's Nasdaq-listed stock was down 2 percent to $11.60 after big gains on Wednesday, when Canadian equity markets were closed for Boxing Day.
Through the autumn of 2012, RIM rallied as investors grew optimistic about prospects for its new make-or-break BlackBerry 10 devices, to be formally unveiled January 30. On Thursday, the shares were still up more than 80 percent from the year's low, touched in September.
The Wednesday and Thursday gains also came after several websites posted photos of what they said could be the first BlackBerry 10 phone with a physical keyboard.
Evercore Partners analyst Mark McKechnie said the photos boosted RIM's stock, which he said was depressed from last week's selloff, on a quiet trading day.
"There certainly are folks that believe in the new product cycle," he said. "The whole Wall Street community's been trying to handicap how strong that product cycle will be for RIM."
RIM has said it plans to roll out touchscreen-only devices first, a few weeks before it releases a smartphone with the QWERTY keyboard many longtime BlackBerry users rave about. But some analysts believe devices with hard keyboards will not hit the market until spring.
Management has touted BlackBerry 10's new on-screen keyboard, but some see the company's reputation for building solid, usable physical keyboards as an important competitive advantage as RIM fights for market share against Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics .
McKechnie said volatility is not unusual ahead of big smartphone launches.
"There's so much scale involved in this industry, one way or the other. A successful product versus a failure is going to really change the earnings power of a company," he said.

Not so long ago, the idea of most people owning a robot seemed far-fetched. But today, not only can consumers buy robots, but they can do so relatively cheaply.
The world of consumer robotics is finally beginning to merge with the world of everyday people, and some products really stand out. But in this growing and cutting-edge field, what makes a robot commercially successful? TechNewsDaily spoke with two creators of successful consumer robots to find out how they make their products click with the masses.
Ian Bernstein, the cofounder and Chief Technology Officer at Orbotix, believes the secret to success is simplicity, at least for now. ?[The robot] has to be really simple, because if it?s too complicated, people won?t use it,? Bernstein said. He and his team are responsible for Sphero, a simple robotic sphere with a range of capabilities.
But that simplicity didn?t come easy, said Bernstein. ?We were constantly improving to make things intuitive and simplify things. It was so hard to get this thing to work. It was crazy.?
Complicating the challenge of making a straightforward robot, Bernstein also wanted to produce an affordable product, one that would be accessible to a wide audience. Over the last few years, the Orbotix team made that goal a reality.
[Flying and Rolling Robots Work Together]
Users can control Sphero by remote, using an iPhone or Android. But the robot can also function as an onscreen controller to replace traditional gaming controllers, tabletop and multiplayer games, and, most recently, augmented reality games (games that enable users to view the real-word environment along with augmented, machine-generated elements). The ball, which two years ago was simply a concept, became hugely popular, and is now available for $129 at retailers like Brookstone, Apple and Target.
And the Orbotix team has no intention of slowing down. With more and more apps on the way, Bernstein and his group are excited about the future of Sphero, and for new Orbotix creations.
?I think Sphero is a good introduction to gaming robots, and as people get more comfortable with that idea, we can begin to do more complicated things,? said Bernstein. ?In fifteen years, we want to be the company building one-and-a-half foot [tall] robots that you buy at Target and battle [with] while you?re jumping around your living room.?
But the current world of consumer robots isn?t limited to entertainment. Jasen Wang, the founder of MakeBlock, believes that the ability to create is an essential piece of the consumer robotics market. His product, what he calls ?Legos for adults,? allows consumers to buy parts and build robots for themselves.
?Most people are creative people,? said Wang, ?and they have ideas, so now, if they want to, they have the opportunity to realize those ideas.? Like, Bernstein, Wang wanted to create an intuitive product. ?Before, if you wanted to produce something, it was very hard on the mechanics side. Our goal is make it easy for people to build robots.?
Admittedly, MakeBlock does require some knowledge of hardware, and Wang believes that the product needs to be simplified even more. But, he explains, just as a child benefits from playing with Legos, adults will learn as they manipulate and play with products like MakeBlock.
In the years to come, Wang believes that knowledge of robotics will become more ubiquitous, allowing more people to design and build their own robots. And he believes MakeBlock can help catalyze that process. ?In the future, there will be a lot of makers in the world,? Wang said. And with MakeBlock, ?there are no limits on the imagination or what you want to do.?
But for now, according to both Bernstein and Wang, the most important component of a consumer robot is simplicity. Allowing people to acclimate to using robots at home will allow the industry to move forward into a future in which robots play a much larger role, not only as entertainment devices, but as tools in our everyday lives.

U.S. home builders continue to feel much better about their industry, but the dramatic gains seen through the summer and fall appear to be moderating.
An industry index measuring home builder sentiment in the single-family market rose two points in December, while November's five-point monthly gain was revised lower by one point.
The National Association of Home Builder's/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index now stands at 47; 50 is the line between positive and negative sentiment. The index stood at 21 in December of 2011.
"Builders across the country are reporting some of the best sales conditions they've seen in more than five years, with more serious buyers coming forward and a shrinking number of vacant and foreclosed properties on the market," observed NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg in Tuesday's release. "However, one thing that is still holding back potential home sales is the difficulty that many families are encountering in getting qualified for a mortgage due to today's overly stringent lending standards."
Of the index's three components, current sales rose two points to 51, pushing into positive territory for the first time since the housing crash. Sales expectations over the next six months, while remaining in the positive, dropped one point, and buyer traffic rose one point but is still far from positive territory at 36.
Regionally, home builder sentiment saw its biggest jump in the Northeast, up 12 points month-to-month. Sentiment rose two points in the Midwest, but fell two points in the South and three points in the West. Only in the Midwest are the home builders in solid positive territory.
(Read More: McMansions Return: Big Houses Are Coming Back)
December's gains in sentiment are not as dramatic as the jump in November, as some builders are likely concerned about the possibility of going over the so-called "fiscal cliff." Some builders have already reported laying off workers and delaying projects, concerned that much-needed capital for construction will dry up if a deal cannot be reached by the end of the year.
Last week the CEO's of 18 home building companies, who collectively build 30 percent of the nation's new homes, sent a letter to President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner urging them to avoid the fiscal cliff, even if it means raising taxes on the builders:
"We support a comprehensive agreement in Washington to avoid the fiscal cliff that includes revenue increases (including tax rate adjustments) together with meaningful entitlement reforms. We believe that a properly balanced agreement will breed confidence in the political system and the U.S. economy, will enable the housing market to continue its recovery, and, in turn, will promote broader economic growth."
The letter was signed by the CEOs of publicly traded builders including Beazer Homes, Hovananian Enterprises, KBHome, Lennar, MDC, and Meritage.

Piedmont and WellStar, two of Atlanta's largest hospital systems, said Monday they are forming an insurance company -- a bold move in a rapidly changing health care marketplace.
By elbowing their way into the domain of Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and United Healthcare, the hospital systems could dramatically increase the competition in the state's insurance marketplace. The move could also change the way patients get care, because the hospital systems will have a financial stake in keeping patients healthy and controlling costs.
The impact could be especially significant if the Piedmont-WellStar health plan is included on the health law's insurance exchange, where many Georgians will shop for plans and qualify for federal subsidies to help pay for their coverage in 2014.
"The reason this is such a big deal is that it creates a considerable amount of competition within the health insurance market in Georgia that many feared would not happen with the exchange -- that it would be two or three big insurers, and that's it," said Bill Custer, a health care expert at Georgia State University.
Stepping into the complicated world of insurance might seem risky at a time when hospitals are facing financial challenges and waves of change. But the systems are not the first to try it, and they view the undertaking as an exciting opportunity to shift the course of health care for the better.
"I actually think we have more risk by not moving in this direction than we do moving in this direction," said Dr. Ronnie Brownsworth of Piedmont, who is the CEO of the new health plan. "The trend in this country is for providers to step up and become more accountable for the cost and quality of the care."
By having access to every detailed piece of information about a patient's care -- from the insurance records to the medical files -- the health systems say they have a better chance of achieving the holy grail of health care innovation: dramatically lowering the cost of care by making it better. They say they can do more to prevent hospitalizations and other costly health events if they can study their patients carefully and employ care without the intrusion of insurance company regulations and payment policies.
"We do think it's a significant advance for the health care market in how care is going to be delivered," said Greg Hurst, interim chief operating officer at Piedmont.
For privately insured people, health care is a triangle, with patients, hospitals and insurance companies each a fundamental part of the equation. Under the Piedmont-WellStar plan, hospitals would draw a straight line between themselves and patients, cutting insurers out of the game.
And insurance companies are skeptical.
Graham Thompson, a spokesman for large insurers in Georgia, said running an insurance company is especially challenging today with the wave of reforms coming through the federal health law, not to mention managing the day to day operations.
"Can a medical provider successfully assume the role of an insurer?" Thompson said. "There aren't a lot of great examples out there."
With health care costs ballooning every year, the government health plans, Medicare and Medicaid, as well as private employers that provide their workers with insurance, are demanding that doctors and hospitals get control of expenses, said Reynold Jennings, WellStar's CEO. "You can't succeed unless you have got total information to do that," he said.
Custer, of Georgia State, said if the Piedmont-WellStar health plan succeeds at better managing the most complex and costly cases, it will put pressure on other insurers to find a way to work with providers to achieve similar results.
The health systems plan to launch an array of products for 2014, the same time that the major components of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act kick in. The systems said that they want to offer a Medicare Advantage plan, as well as plans for employers, but the details aren't yet clear. The systems said the plan would be available for Piedmont and WellStar's employees and family members.
Whether it will offer a plan on the insurance exchange required by the health law will depend on the detailed requirements of selling on the exchange, executives said.
The state Department of Insurance confirmed Monday that Piedmont has already filed an application -- for a health maintenance organization. Piedmont and WellStar said they intend to move forward as a joint venture operating a for-profit insurance company. Piedmont said it started working toward developing an insurance plan this year when it partnered with Evolent Health, a Washington, D.C. which helped the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center launch a plan that the systems hope to emulate.
The plans are expected to operate as an HMO where patients are treated mostly within Piedmont and WellStar's vast network of hospitals and doctors. But the systems said they may expand that network to include other providers. ___

Don, I hate leftists with such a burning passion I don't see how this country can ever come together. I hate them more than I used to love America.
How do you come together with someone who wants your nation to crash and burn?
Since 1960, there has been a 560% increase in violent crime, a 419% increase in illegitimate births; a quadrupling in divorce rates; a tripling of the percentage of children living in single-parent homes; more than a 200% increase in the teenage suicide rate; and a drop of almost 80 points in SAT scores.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, fifth from right, of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, poses with nine other leaders of political parties after a debate last month.
By Arata Yamamoto, NBC News
TOKYO - Kazuyoshi Enokido has lost faith in traditional Japanese politics.
"I'm placing my bet on something new because there's no hope with existing parties," the salesman told NBC News as he finished submitting an early ballot ahead of Japan's election, which is scheduled for Sunday.
"Even if it means being a bit more aggressive, I would like to see someone who can pull everyone up and exert his leadership skills," said Enokido, as he stood with his wife and one-year-old child in Tokyo's Ginza District.
Voters in Japan are witnessing one of the most complex and confusing general elections in the country's history. A total of 11 political parties, most of them formed within the past year or two, are vying for parliamentary seats.
Yoshihiko Noda, 55, is Japan's seventh prime minister since 2006. And if polls are accurate, another leadership change looms. Not everyone is happy about that prospect.
"In my honest opinion, I don't know why we have to keep changing our leaders," Hiroma Shindo, 22, told NBC News. "There's no way anyone can produce any results in just two or three years."
Most of the groups vying for power are splinters from the two main parties ? the ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and the?Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which has held power in Japan for most of the post-war period. Their familiar faces make it that much more difficult for voters to distinguish each individual party's position on key issues.
Citing surveys, Reuters reported Friday that?between 30 percent and nearly 50 percent of voters were undecided with just days to go.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda waves to voters after an election campaign speech in Tokyo on Thursday.
"I can't decide. It's hard to know exactly what we're voting for," said Hiroko Takahashi, a 51-year-old part-time worker from Machida, a city west of Tokyo, told The Associated Press.
The challenges faced by the country ? the world's third-largest economy and one of the United States' most important allies ? are formidable.
"This time around the voters are concerned about one single simple issue, which can be called 'security'," said Tomohiko Taniguchi, former spokesman for the foreign affairs ministry who now teaches at Tokyo's Keio University.

Security covers a lot of ground.
"Job and economic security," he said. "Secondly, nuclear security. And thirdly national security. And what is complex is, these three 'securities' are not necessarily compartmentalized. They are mutually interrelated."
More than 20 years after its "miracle economy" bubble burst, Japan seems trapped in a vicious circle of sinking prices and weak demand as sluggish growth forces businesses to slash prices and frugal-minded consumers put off spending.
There does seem to be some agreement among the parties when it comes to the economy, Taniguchi said.
"Economic security is the one that overlaps party boundaries," he added. "There is little difference if you look at the platforms of LDP and DPJ. There is little difference between them and other parties are pushing similar agendas."
None of the parties would disagree that Japan needs to wean itself from its dependence on nuclear power after last year's Fukushima disaster, while at the same time, securing a stable source of power.
"Unlike the past two (lower house) elections, the main points of contention are not so clear and in that sense, it is hard for voters to understand," said Yukio Maeda, a political science professor at the University of Tokyo.
With the exception of the Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party, the majority of the political factions also acknowledge Japan's need to rebuild its diplomatic strength by restoring its alliance with the United States.
Relations deteriorated over the handling of a bilateral agreement to relocate a controversial key U.S. airbase on Okinawa Island, a situation made even more acute because of the contentious territorial dispute with China over a group of islands in the East China Sea.
Much at stake for US as tensions rise in troubled China Seas
Opinion polls by the Asahi, Yomiuri and Nikkei newspapers on Thursday predicted that the LDP was?on track for a stunning victory in the election, with hawkish former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe returning to power. They?forecast that the LDP was headed for a hefty majority in the powerful?lower house of parliament.

Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister who is currently leader of Japan's main opposition Liberal Democratic Party, waves to supporters from his car on Thursday.
Reuters reported that the polls suggested the LDP and its smaller ally, the New Komeito party, could even gain the two-thirds majority needed to break through a policy deadlock that has plagued the country since 2007.
If no single party wins the majority in the 480-seat lower house, a coalition government would be formed. With so many fledgling parties, a few, no matter how tiny, may end up wielding considerable clout, getting wooed to join a coalition government.
The new party with the most momentum -- and one that could be part of the coalition government -- is the Japan Restoration Party, led by Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara and Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto, who have been pushing for a more assertive Japan capable of flexing its military muscle in territorial disputes with China.
Taniguchi said one thing appears certain: Japanese voters desire "a government that could stay long in power."
At Tokyo's Shimbashi Station on Friday, one retiree agreed with that assessment -- warning that political instability was damaging Japan's international reputation.
"The way our leaders come and go, it's too frequent," said the 66-year-old woman, who only gave her name as Ms. Itoh. "The world will stop paying attention to us."
The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Facebook removed a page set up?by the Taliban in Pakistan, after a monitoring group reported on its existence as a fresh example of a social media tool being?used for the recruitment of terrorists.
SITE, a non-governmental organization that monitors terrorist propaganda online and how terrorist groups use the Internet, called attention?on Dec. 3?to the Facebook page that belonged to Umar Media TTP, the media arm of the?Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Noted was Umar Media's?October posting?for "online job opportunities" for "video editing, translations, sharing, uploading, downloading and collection of required data."?
Then, in late November, page administrators posted a new item seeking writers, SITE said in its?report. The Facebook?solicitation said, in part:
Dear brothers and sisters 'Pen is mightier than the sowrd [sic]' Now you have a chance to use this mighty weapon.
?'AHYAH-E-KHILAFAT' is an official quarterly magazine of 'TEHREEEK-E-TALIBAN PAKISTAN'.
?Would you like to be a writer for 'AHYAH-E-KHILAFAT'?
"Umar Media's recruitment drive highlights the extent to which Jihadist groups recruit online as well as the professionalism of Jihadist propaganda production houses," SITE said in its report.
The page,?which Facebook took offline in the past few weeks,?has not been the only Taliban-related one on Facebook???there are others, including one supportive of the Afghanistan Taliban and another about Taliban news?(neither of which appear to be very active).
A Facebook spokesperson told NBC News in an email that the social network ? with more than 1 billion users worldwide now ? does have rules that "bar direct statements of hate, attacks on private individuals and groups and the promotion of terrorism."
"We have?a large team of professional investigators both in the U.S. and abroad who enforce these rules," the spokesperson said.?
"Where abusive content is posted and reported, Facebook removes it and disables accounts of those responsible. Whenever we become aware of possible violations of our terms, we will investigate these instances and take action if violations of our statements of rights and responsibilities take place."
Facebook, however, will not comment on specific pages, other than to tell NBC News: "Yes,?we have removed the page."
The?SITE report suggested that the group knew it might not stay visible?on Facebook. "Knowing that their Facebook account may be taken down,?the call for contributors was also posted on a page for the 'Ghaza-E-Hind'?Facebook group." That group?no longer appears to be on the social network, either.
The Pew Research Center's new report about social networking worldwide says that those in Arab countries are more likely than others around the globe?to use sites like Facebook and Twitter to talk politics and religion, finding freedom of expression?flowing more easily online than in real life, although several?Middle Eastern countries having squelched Internet use at various times in recent years.
In more recent months, online propaganda campaigns?even monitored the moment-by-moment actions of war in the Israel-Gaza conflict.
"It's a new method (of propaganda) added onto other methods,"?Charles Ries,?former ambassador to Greece and vice president of the international division of the?RAND Corporation,?told NBC News at that time. "Both?sides combine whatever they do in kinetic fashion with an effort to mobilize international opinion."

This is my last post for Family Tree Firsts. After 12 months of blogging and research, I?m no longer a beginner-level genealogist, and next week a new novice will take over.
It?s hard to believe that a year has come and gone.? Wow, is about all I can say.? Being the Family Tree Firsts Blogger was an amazing experience and I am very grateful to all of you who shared my adventures with me.? I have made new friends, learned more than I could even digest at times from experts and connected with cousins all over the country.
Hopefully I have made you try something new, laugh, think, and on occasion gave you a good cry.? I certainly have done all of those things along the way.? This time last year I knew so little about my and my husband?s family that I was thrilled by this opportunity.? Every time I uncovered a new piece of information I couldn?t wait to share with all of you. Your comments encouraged me forward.
My husband and I have enjoyed sharing my research with our families and children too.? It is unbelievable that I solved as many mysteries and brick walls that I did.? It was such a wonderful feeling to know why his 2nd great-grandfather assumed a new identity, to find that I have a British Revolutionary War-era soldier in the family, tell you about my first trip to NARA (squealing with delight), plus all the other off-the-wall things that I saw and learned.? You became my invisible family, and I knew that you were rooting me on to further successes.
The education I received through Family Tree University was great.? Every instructor knew their stuff and was helpful when I ran into problems.? I have always had a thirst for knowledge and this was a fantastic way to satiate it.? The tips, techniques and information I learned guided me to each new discovery.? I was always excited to take what I learned (be it from a class, book or webinar) and discover another bit of my family history.
It?s fair to say I?ve been aggressively bitten by the genealogy bug.? It is approaching near-obsession level, and nearly everything I do leads me to ponder how I can tie it into my family research.? My main purpose is still to document our family journey for my children, but now I want to do more.? Writing this blog has shown me that I have a lot more to share. This won?t be the last you hear of me.
Curious as to what I might be up to next?? So am I!? You can keep up with my odd train of thought, discoveries and opinions at my personal blog, Trials and Tribulations of a Self-Taught Family Historian.? I also have a Facebook page and you can find me on twitter @tntfamhist if that is more you style.
Well, it has been fun. And with that, in the words of Douglas Adams, ?So long and thanks for all the fish!?
