UFN 30: Manuwa Talks Jimmo, Plan for “Hugging”

Since Jimi Manuwa turned pro in 2008, he’s become one of Britain’s top light-heavyweights thanks to a 13-0 record that includes wins over Kyle Kingsbury and Cyrille Diabate in the Octagon. As a result, “Poster Boy” has been booked to battle 18-2 light-heavyweight Ryan Jimmo on the main card of UFC Fight Night 30.

While tomorrow’s scrap is an important and high profile opportunity for both men, it remains to be seen what kind of fight will take place. Manuwa has recorded stoppage wins in 12 of his 13 pro wins to date, but Jimmo has gone to the judge’s scorecards in four of his last five scraps. The exception was when he needed just seven seconds to KO Anthony Perosh at UFC 149 last July.

In a recent appearance on MMA Junkie.com Radio, here is some of Manuwa had to say about tomorrow’s match-up, and the approach he plans to take.

“I’m an exciting fighter, and I’ll put on an exciting fight, as usual,” Manuwa said. “If I start getting bored with his hugging, then I might just decide to switch his lights off.”

“He could try to take me down,” Manuwa said. “He can try and punch me. I’ve got everything. We can play jiu-jitsu. We can play wrestling. We can play boxing. We can play kickboxing. We can do whatever he wants. I’ll be imposing my will on the day, as usual. I might decide to take him down if I feel like it.”

Knocking someone out is certainly one way to stop their hugging. Hopefully it’s an entertaining fight. Manuwa also relayed his prediction in the interview: a KO win in round one or two…

UFC FN 30 will go down at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, England, and the main card will be broadcast on FOX Sports 2.
