WTF: Julianne Hough Wears Blackface For Her Hallowe’en Costume Because It’s 1848?

She Went As Crazy Eyes From 'OITNB.' But Yeah. NO.

This morning I came across my cousin Kelli‘s brilliant Facebook status and find it appropriate to share, given the ridiculousness of this story: Dear White People, When you are dressing as a Black person for Halloween, you do not, I REPEAT DO NOT, have to color your skin for effect. It’s dumb and offensive and 2013 so you should *know* better!!! Julianne Hough is one of my favorite ladies when it comes to red carpet fashion, but I’m completely over her right now. For Hallowe’en the actress decided to dress up as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren from the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black (great idea), but felt the need to don blackface for the outfit (bad, horrible, ignorant, ridiculous, did-you-not-see-Bamboozled? idea). Julianne has since apologized, but whatever. I’m gonna go ahead and do what I always do– blame America’s public school system because clearly we are not spending enough time on American History and the Jim Crow era. Whatever.
